Dear Elisa,
I have a bad case of the knitting doldrums. I haven't been knitting at all. Well, I knit through the Germany trip pretty well, but really didn't make satisfactory progress on anything because I was working a few projects (brought on by the fear of running out of knitting whilst on vacation...which is always, always a lie).
I have a lot of projects going, and twice as many excuses to not work on them. The list of stuff that stares accusingly from the knitting basket is:
1. A Dreamsicle Scarf
2. A gift feather-and-fan scarf
3. The Green Monster
4. My Juicy Blanket
5. The latest Rockin' Sock Club socks (though I'm using the yarn for a different pattern)
6. A Puff Daddy (to be fair, I finished the body for this within 30 minutes of cast-on, but I'm being lazy about getting the pom pom sorted out)
7. A Jaunty Bag--alas, I cannibalized this for the needle cable
I even have a couple of projects which aren't yet in my Ravelry list:
1. A Monteagle bag from the latest Mason-Dixon Knitting book
2. A pair of thrummed mittens from No Sheep for You
3. My cashmere shawl, which is getting quite insolent as it waits to be frogged and turned into something more exciting
And you know what? I don't want to work on any of this stuff. It's too intense for what I want to knit that night. Or it's too boring. Or my circular needle join is getting crappy and hard to deal with. Or, or, or.
The other night, though, I had a revelation. Dishcloths. Yes. Sunday night I pulled my monstrous Sugar 'n' Creme out of the stash and said that, by golly, I'm going to knit discloths from this thing until it's gone. I'm even going the super-easy route and doing "Grandmother's Favorite" over and over and over. It's freeing and relaxing, and I'm loving it. Just what the doctor ordered. And at the end, I'll have a pile of dishcloths to give to people and convince that it's very, very okay to use them.
Inspired by dishcloth success, I excavated the thrummed mittens from the project basket and figured out where the mistake was that caused me to fling them away in disgust a few months ago. So I'm cautiously moving ahead on those now, too. This is good since they're a Christmas present.
Pictures again once I find my camera card reader. At least one of the two that I own and used not two weeks ago. I have tales of German yarns!
xoxo,
M.
